The Health Ministry announced on Friday that the CoWin system will get a four-digit security code feature to minimize errors related to the vaccination statuses of users.
New Delhi,May,8,2021: CoWin website, which is being used to book vaccination slots, has received a new feature that would prevent errors. The Health Ministry announced on Friday that the CoWin system will get a four-digit security code feature to minimize errors related to the vaccination statuses of users. The feature is being rolled out for users who have booked their vaccination slot online.
The Healthy Ministry added a new feature to the CoWin website after a lot of users reported loopholes in the CoWin system on Twitter. Users revealed that they got messages from the website that they have taken their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine where in reality they had only booked an appointment. No jab was ever given to them. The new feature has been rolled out to curb such data entry errors.
“In order to minimise such errors and the subsequent inconvenience caused to the citizens, the CoWIN system is introducing a new feature of four-digit security code in the CoWIN application from May 8. Now, after verification, if the beneficiary is been found eligible, before administering the vaccine dose, the verifier/vaccinator will ask the beneficiary about his four-digit code and then enter the same in the CoWIN system to correctly record the vaccination status,” PTI quoted the ministry as saying.
The new 4-digit code feature will be rolled out today. When you book an online vaccination slot, you will be handed over a four-digit code. Before you take the vaccine, the vaccinator will ask for the code which will then be entered into the coWin system to record the correct vaccination status. You will receive the code after successful booking of appointment, the code will also be printed in your appointment acknowledgment slip, but the vaccinator will not have any idea about it. The code will only be known to you.
The code will ensure that only the user who has made an online appointment gets the jab and data about the user’s vaccination status is recorded correctly in the system. The vaccination certification will only be provided to users only after the vaccinator gets the security code so do not forget to carry your acknowledgment slip or the SMS which carries your code. Once you get the jab, you will get a confirmation message on your mobile along with the link to your vaccine certificate.
The government has rolled out third phase vaccination which includes the people above 18 from May 1. The vaccination slots can be booked through the CoWin website as well as the Aarogya Setu app.
